This month, the UK’s biggest Halloween event will be taking place in Cornwall as The Masked Ball Halloween 2013 comes to The Lizard.

On Saturday 26th October, revellers will be donning their most gruesome outfits and costumes to celebrate the return of the biannual party that will be taking place on Rosuick Farm in St Martin.

While most Halloween parties involve apple-bobbing, trick-or-treating and cheesy music, such as The Monster Mash, on household CD players, this festival is a little different. Internationally-renowned DJs and live bands replace Halloween cheese with playlists that are packed with funky beats on sound systems that will rock the site from dusk until dawn.

Some compare it to Cornwall’s former SAS Balls, but it is a unique and innovative event in its own right. There are numerous Halloween-themed venues across the site where people can enjoy a diverse range of music, fun activities, performances, and fairground rides. These include the Chapel of Rest, The Morgue, Forgotten World, Voodoo Shack, Carnival of the Damned, Rave Yard, Deaths Disco, and Carnihell. An additional secret area has also been announced to keep revellers in suspense until the big night.Mark Falmouth Photography

As with every festival, it’s all about the music and this year’s Halloween Ball line-up will not disappoint.

The incredible list of artists and DJs includes Grandmaster Flash, Sister Bliss (Faithless), Phil Hartnoll (Orbital), Greg Wilson, Drums of Death, John Askew, Panda, as well as Cornwall’s very own Hong Kong Ping Pong and The Freerange DJs.

The Halloween festival attracts party-goers from near and far and this year, the festivities will kick off with a warm-up night in limited venues from 8pm on Friday 25th October with activities including a silent disco and a screening of The Exorcist in the woods.  The main event will begin at 6pm on Saturday and will continue through to 6am the following morning.

Hobbit Hut

Camping is available and included in the ticket price but for those looking for a little bit of luxury and a unique place to sleep, there are Belle Tents, Tipis, and lockable Hobbit Huts onsite.

For the campers, there are hot showers, toilets and a 24-hour shop, but be warned, you can’t park your car next to your tent. For those who want the comfort of their own bed after a night of partying, there are scheduled buses available to and from various towns across Cornwall.

Now in its fifth year, The Masked Ball Halloween 2013 is expected to be the UK’s biggest Halloween party and while the focus is on great music, fancy dress and all-night dancing, the event also helps raise money for local charities, including the Porthleven Christmas Lights Fund, SAS, St Kevern Christmas Lights, and the Falmouth-based Pants charity.

So, dig out your scariest fancy dress, book a couple of days off work, pack up your camping gear, and get ready to enjoy a weekend of unforgettable Halloween festivities.
