Chester-based singer-songwriter Tom Jarvis, supported by his lead guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Thorley Fox, released his latest single As Soon As I Can earlier in July.
Tom kicked off 2014 with a UK university tour; he played at 26 universities in just two weeks. So far in his musical career, he has also supported John Newman and played at The Beat Herder Festival in 2013, alongside Clean Bandit, George Ezra and Temples.
As soon as I can is undoubtedly a brilliant summer tune. Laid-back and easygoing with a heartfelt bunch of lyrics, it has to be the perfect song to accommodate a summer road trip. The gentle sound of the guitar makes it evermore easygoing and appealing.
After listening to the track at least four times, I can’t help but hum along and tap my feet. This song, as are many of Tom’s, is romantic and soulful. Some lyrics include “your eyes are like mirrors in an empty room” and “our love plays louder than this song”- these may be a little bit too soppy for my liking but nonetheless ‘As soon as I can’ is a true love song.
I also listened to Tom Jarvis’s most recent EP, Dream Life, which was released in 2013. The three songs on this EP share the same unique style Tom shares in As soon as I can. Tom Jarvis may not have won himself a place in the charts with his music just yet, but his impressive talent could be easily compared to the likes of Vance Joy, Ed Sheeran and Ben Howard.
This September, Tom will be playing a gig to raise money for the Gaza Children’s Fund and playing at The Brownstock Festival in Essex where Dizzee Rascal, De La Soul and Razorlight will be headlining.
